‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!' audience members talk show's return

A man who was in ICE custody about a month before he died. His cause of death hasn’t been shared yet and his family is raising a lot of concerns.

A DACA recipient from 2012 to 2016, 39-year-old Ismael Ayala Uribe, originally from Mexico.

According to ICE, his DACA status was denied and he was convicted of two DUIs, one in 2015 and another in 2019.

His mother, Lucia Ayala, says he was detained, last month, during an immigration raid at the car-wash he worked at in Orange County.

He was being held at the Adelanto detention center, and according to a spokesperson for ICE, last week, Ayala wasn’t feeling well and was seen by an on-call doctor.

He was transferred to a hospital in Victorville for an abscess and was also dealing with heart issues, according to ICE.

Ayala died early Monday morning and his mother argues that her son didn’t get the help he needed in time.

The mother says her son was healthy and didn’t have any problems before being taken into ICE custody.

Meanwhile, ICE shared a statement saying:

“ICE remains committed to ensuring that all those in its custody reside in safe, secure and humane environments. Comprehensive medical care is provided from the moment individuals arrive and throughout the entirety of their stay. All people in ICE custody receive medical, dental and mental health intake screening within 12 hours of arriving at each detention facility, a full health assessment within 14 days of entering ICE custody or arrival at a facility, access to medical appointments and 24-hour emergency care. At no time during detention is a detained illegal alien denied emergent care.”
