Fourth of July illegal fireworks displays not quite over, residents say

While the Fourth of July holiday has passed, some said the celebrations have not ended.

Some in Vallejo said the holiday weekend has been loud and remnants of illegal fireworks can be found in areas around the town.

Firefighters said on the Fourth from midnight until about 8 a.m. the next morning, there were about 89 calls for service in Vallejo. There was an increased number of calls for debris and vegetation fires.

“We can not attribute all of these fire types to fireworks; however, we can say that we saw fireworks discards in the area of most of the fires I just mentioned,” said Kevin Brown of Vallejo Fire.

Additional firefighters were in place on the holiday and brush trucks were ready for deployment, officials said.

A sideshow also made its way into Valleo along with fireworks.

However, officials said they believe there were fewer than normal calls compared to past years.

Still, neighbors said they are concerned about any spark with the dry conditions and the long summer ahead.
