Fire near La Honda in San Mateo County destroys multiple structures

Crews responded to a fire that started as a vehicle blaze and spread to nearby brush and other structures Friday morning in San Mateo County’s La Honda area, according to Cal Fire.

Shortly after 6 a.m., the Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit said on social media that firefighters were working to extinguish a reported vehicle fire in La Honda.

“The fire involved at least one RV that was unoccupied,” fire officials said.

The fire engulfed a manufactured home, multiple outbuildings and three trailers, fire officials said later on social media. It wasn’t immediately clear if one of those structures was the source of the fire, dubbed the Coggins Fire.

According to Cal Fire, some witnesses saw nearby trees catch fire. Photos from the UC San Diego public safety program ALERTCalifornia on social media also showed the fire already spewing thick smoke.
