CVS Opens Booking System for COVID-19 Vaccines. Here's What to Know

While the city Los Angeles shuts down several of its vaccination sites because of a shortage of doses, CVS says it has more than 80,000 shots ready to go.

The chain will begin taking appointments on Thursday.

The Dodger Stadium vaccination site and other city sites will be closed Friday and Saturday due to a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines in LA County.

CVS and other pharmacies get their vaccines through a federal government program. The first phase of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program begins this week when vaccines were shipped directly to some pharmacies in addition to state allocations.

The program will start with about 1 million doses per week that will go to 6,500 retail pharmacies. The figures will eventually increase to 40,000 drug stores.

The program includes 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks. Partners include Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, Walmart, Kroger, Rite Aid, Costco and more. See a full list here.
