Crafty LA Residents Will Compete on NBC's "Making It"

Are you crafty? Then you’ll want to watch “Making It.” Executive produced by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, this lighthearted show takes on the world of making things by hand, and adds a competitive element to it.

The best makers, or crafters, from around the country take on a series of handmade projects they must complete in their own unique way, and on a deadline. As the competition goes on, the challenges become increasingly difficult, and the least successful maker is eliminated each week.

Two local makers, Billy Kheel and Robert Mahar made the cut and will be competing in the show’s first season. They tell NBC4 that their passion for making things by hand is what drew them to the show.

“I said, this looks fun, then completely forgot about it. The next thing I know, I was in a barn with Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman,” Kheel said.

Kheel is an artist and teacher. And Mahar shares his crafting with audiences online.

“The world is challenging right now, and I think that people are looking for, not only escape, but alternate activities. I think this is going to open up people’s worlds,” contestant Robert Mahar said.

Both have their hands in the creative art world in LA.  They also agree that this show will open up audiences minds about the world of making things by hand.

“Making It” airs Tuesday, July 31st at 10 p.m. PST on NBC.
