
In another sign that we’re returning to pre-COVID living, casual carpooling is returning to the East Bay.
Casual carpooling is a concept that’s been around since the 1970s. For those unfamiliar with it, here’s how it works: Anyone can go to a designated spot and hitch a ride with a stranger into the city provided they pitch in some money for gas.
Currently, there’s just one pickup location, and it’s in Oakland’s Lakeshore neighborhood. Up until the pandemic, there were about 20 drop-off and pickup spots across the East Bay and San Francisco.
