Brush Fire Sparks Near Highway 101 South of San Jose


Fire crews on Sunday were battling a 63-acre brush fire south of San Jose, near Coyote Creek Golf Club, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze, dubbed the Park Fire, sparked just before 1 p.m. off Monterey Road and Coyote Creek Golf Drive, between San Jose and Morgan Hill, Cal Fire said. Crews had 50 percent containment as of 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

All southbound lanes of Highway 101 were temporarily shut down for about 45 minutes, according to the California Highway Patrol. The lanes reopened just before 3 p.m.

Crews were fighting the fire from the ground and air as red flag fire conditions were in effect across the Bay Area.

No structures were threatened, Cal Fire said.

Cal Fire was assiting the San Jose Fire Department in fighting the blaze.
