Bay Area Proud: A forgotten story sparks a life of service

Some of the 5.5 million Californians on the CalFresh program, which is funded by SNAP, were starting to see their full benefits restored Friday, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office.

The governor’s office made the announcement in a news release late Thursday, saying only some of those beneficiaries were seeing funds loaded on their EBT cards so they can now buy food.

Also in the release, Newsom declared victory in the state’s lawsuit to force the Trump administration to restore SNAP benefits that ran out because of the ongoing federal government shutdown. A federal judge ordered the restoration of full benefits by Friday, and the Trump administration has said it would appeal.
