A person is dead following an early morning crash on Highway 101 in San Mateo County Sunday, authorities report.
The California Highway Patrol said the solo-vehicle crash was reported at around 4:15 a.m. along northbound Highway 101, apparently either on the Peninsula Boulevard offramp or on San Mateo City streets. The crash involved a BMW sedan, according to officials.
Authorities said it appears to have been “a very violent crash” with the car hitting a k-rail and then flying onto city streets.
The CHP said the investigation is still ongoing. The identity of the victim has not been revealed at this time.
