7 missing after fire, massive blast at California fireworks warehouse

San Jose’s drone pilot program to crack down on illegal fireworks will be launched this Friday for the July Fourth holiday.

The drones will allow the city to detect and prosecute residents using personal fireworks, which can result in citations and fines, officials said.

The Drone Pilot Program was unanimously approved in late February by the San Jose Public Safety and Finance Strategic Support Committee.

“With this pilot program, we can take a proactive and data-driven approach to enforcement, while minimizing disruption to the community,” District 7 Councilmember Bien Doan said.

Supporters of the program hope that the drones will keep communities safe from the risks of injuries and fire hazards of personal fireworks.
