Two people were arrested following an over-the-counter medications theft investigation in Vacaville, the police department said on Wednesday.
Police said they recently received a call from a supermarket manager reporting that nearly $2,500 in over-the-counter medications were stolen from the store. The manager provided the police department with clear surveillance footage and a photo of the suspect’s vehicle, a gray Mazda SUV, according to authorities.
Police reported the suspect was identified as 42-year-old Jamie Charles Maurice Thomas of Suisun City. Officials said the police department learned Thomas was staying at Motel 6 in a nearby city.
Officers located the Mazda in Fairfield and conducted a traffic stop, police said. The department informed 40-year-old Ondraya Wroten, also from Suisun City, was the driver and Thomas was in the backseat.
The police department reported detectives found a large quantity of OTC medications matching what had been stolen, as well as fentanyl and a radio likely used to monitor supermarket staff communications during the theft.
Police said after serving a search warrant at the motel room, detectives discovered many items including a wide range of stolen mail, passports, IDs, bank statements, vehicle registrations and titles, fraudulent checks, counterfeit currency in multiple stages of production and personal identifying information for approximately 80 people.
Authorities report officers contacted 23 of those people, and they all confirmed they did not know Thomas and did not give him permission to have their information. Officials added one victim said their home had recently burned down, and someone stole property from the charred remains.
The police department said both suspects were booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of forgery, possession of stolen property, possession of fraudulent checks/currency and possession of personal identifying information for more than 10 victims.
